Project Help Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, one of the most livable cities in the United States with culture, activities, events and local and national charities that need your help in these special times.

The world has changed for everyone and I have lived in Pittsburgh for 25 years. I am a wife and a mother to 5 children. I have made a special goal in my life to help people in any way possible with the tools that are made available to me. The list of charities that I am listing are local as well as national charities that need your help to reach thousands of people across our nation and some internationally.

1. Pittsburgh Food Bank

Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that collects and distributes food through a 380+ member network in 11 counties in southwestern Pennsylvania. Through food solicitation, fund raising, special events, and community partnerships, the Food Bank gathers food at our 94,000 square foot warehouse in Duquesne, PA. Through outlets such as soup kitchens, food pantries, shelters, after school programs, senior high rises, MH-MR drop-in centers, neighborhood food assistance agencies, emergency or disaster-related feeding sites, regional food banks, Meals on Wheels, community centers, and special programs, the Food Bank currently distributes around 21 million pounds of food per year. Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank is a member of Feeding America (formerly America's Second Harvest).

2. Rubinstein-Taybi Family Foundation

The Special Friends Foundation (SFF) is a nonprofit organization established in 1997 by Chris and Carol Garavente. Their son, Louis, is diagnosed with Rubinstein Taybi Syndrome. The Special Friends Foundation is dedicated to providing information and resources to individuals with RTS and their families. The Foundation provides assistance to cover expenses incurred due to RTS that are not covered by medial insurance or Medicaid. SFF is honored to have worked directly with Dr. Rubinstein. The Special Friends Foundation continues to work with the University Affiliated Cincinnati Center for Development Disorders to support ongoing RTS research and the Louis Garavente Database for RTS research.
My son Kade has this rare syndrome and he is 16 years old now. We live in the greater Pittsburgh area in Pennsylvania --and he attends a school that provides his therapies but some families do not have that and is desperately needed for them to function.

We are proud to have served more than 11,000 children in 57 Pennsylvania and 23 West Virginia counties in our 27-year history.
